Nutritional information for dog diets
Every dog has a different nutritional requirement. It mainly depends on the age, breed, size, health conditions and gender. So two dogs of same breed, one a young growing dog and other an old one would have different dietary needs. Same is the case with different breeds. A Labrador’s diet would be a lot different than say, a terrier.
Without getting to technical, a dog’s diet should be balanced for both macro nutrients and micro nutrients. Macro nutrients would be proteins, carbs, and fat whereas micro nutrients would include nutrients like sodium, calcium, phosphorous.
Knowing about these nutrients is essential as it will help you to differentiate between a good and a bad meal for your pet. This will also help in finding the deficiencies in the existing diets, once you are able to evaluate them, you can simply change the diets to a better one.
There are some foods which are toxic for your dog – chocolates, coffee, tea, some mushrooms, nuts, grapes, raisins and onions can be harmful for your dogs but do you know about them all. I did nt knew a lot of them. The book tells you everything which you should not give to your dog. These things can directly affect the health of your dog.
Commercial Dog Food Vs Homemade Dog Food
Most of the commercial food is bad for your dog’s health – A majority of the commercially made dog food is made from meat by products – some of which is unfit to be used anywhere else. It also has harmful chemicals and preservatives to add on to its shelf life. These preservatives are chemicals which are far away from the natural diet of any dog and cause problems in the long run.
Brands are driven by marketing and profitability, they may label some of the ingredients but you wont get to know the quality and proportion of those ingredients.
It makes more sense to feed homemade food to dogs because of all the benefit it can provide. Most people assume that homemade dog food is expensive and takes a lot of time when you compare it to commercially available foods. But this is certainly not true. Homemade food can be cheap and quick
There are so many things which can be prepared in advance as frozen or dry food to save time. Moreover, it is easy to make them with ingredients which are easily available in most of the households. Perhaps the biggest benefit of homemade dog food is that you know exactly what you are feeding you dogs and you can also adjust it according to any special requirements which your pet may have.
